My school in Jerez, Colegio Albariza, is both a colegio concertado and a cooperativa. I was a bit confused by these terms when I first arrived, but I’ve since learned to distinguish these two.
A colegio concertado is essentially what we would call a «charter school» back home. It is a hybrid of a private and public school, taking the best from both. The school is mainly private, but receives some public funding and follows certain government ordinances (class size, school calendar, etc).
Albariza is also a cooperativa, which means it is run entirely by its very own teachers and parents. The same professors who are responsible for educating the students must also oversee any fiscal or structural matters within the school, and each person has a variety of roles. For example, this year’s director is also a primary teacher.
The students enjoying Sport Day, La Jornada Deportiva. I’m going to miss this place!
